    Research

Dr. Ucci joined IIT in 1987 as a member of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. In 1993 he became the Associate Chair and in 1997 served as the Interim Chair of the ECE Department. Dr. Ucci was on sabbatical at Miami University of Ohio for the Fall of 2001 during which time he led a team of faculty to develop their new majors in electrical and computer engineering. Upon his return in the Spring of 2002, he assumed the role of Associate Dean of the Armour College of Engineering and Science. Since the sumer of 2003, Dr. Ucci is serving the university in the capacity of Associate Provost and Interim Dean of the Undergraduate College.

From 1979 until 1981 and again from 1982 to 1987 Dr. Ucci was assistant professor in the Deparment of Electrical Engineering at the SUNY Stony Brook. From 1981 to 1982 he was a senior staff engineer at the Hazeltine Corporation in Greenlawn, NY. He has been a consultant to many firms.

Dr. Ucci has served as the publications editor of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, associate editor of the IEEE Communications Society Magazine, and executive secretary of the IEEE ComSoc Scholarship Program, and director of education for the IEEE Communication Society.

Professor Ucci's area of specialization is communications and signal processing. His current research interests include ultrawideband communications, adaptive antenna arrays and spread spectrum systems. Dr. Ucci has had funded research in the areas of bar code technology, adaptive antenna array processing, and spread spectrum communications.

Dr. Ucci has authored over 40 papers and technical articles, a section on "Locally Optimum Detection and its Applications to Communications and Signal Processing" in the book Signal Processing Methods for Audio, Images, and Telecommunications edited by H. Stark and P. Clarkson, and a section on "Spread Spectrum System," edited by S. S.L Chang, in the Fundamentals Handbook of Electrical Engineering, Vol. 2, Communication, Control, Devices and Systems, J. Wiley and Sons, 1983.
