Assistant Professor Krishnamurthy Named IEEE Distinguished Lecturer
Electrical and Computer Engineering Assistant Professor Mahesh Krishnamurthy has been selected as a 2011-2013 IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Distinguished Lecturer.
The VTS Distinguished Lecturer Program provides the society's worldwide chapters with presentations by experts like Krishnamurthy on topics of interest and importance to the Vehicular Technology membership community.
IIT Renames Student Radio Station in Honor of Electrical Engineering Alumnus A. Sidney Katz
Illinois Institute of Technology is pleased to announce the renaming of the university’s WIIT radio facility to the A. Sidney Katz Radio Studio, in recognition of and with gratitude to the generosity of A. Sidney Katz, a 1962 electrical engineering alumnus. The studio broadcasts as WIIT 88.9-FM in Chicago, and as www.radio.iit.edu on the web.
During his time as a student at IIT, Katz worked as an engineering technician and a part-time math tutor, while hosting a DJ program at the student radio station which was then housed in the basement of a campus fraternity house. After graduating from IIT, Katz served as an engineering technician with Filmotype Corp., and as a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent Office in Washington, D.C. Full Article
Two ECE Professors Receive NSF CAREER Awards
Electrical and Computer Engineering professors Yu Cheng and Kui Ren were named recipients of the 2011 National Science Foundation CAREER Award. The CAREER Award is one of NSF's most prestigious honors, supporting early career-development activities of scholars who integrate research and education within the mission of their organization.
Cheng was recognized for his project "Exploring the Underexplored: A Fundamental Study of Optimal Resource Allocation and Low-Complexity Algorithms in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Networks." Ren was recognized for his project "Secure and Privacy-assured Data Service Outsourcing in Cloud Computing." View a full list of current and past recipients here.

ECE Department Receives 2011 ECEDHA Innovative Program Award
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association announced that the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at IIT will receive the 2011 Innovative Program Award in recognition of its power engineering initiatives, including the new Center for Electricity Innovation.
The award is given annually to individuals or departments that have created, implemented, and sustained a successful program that has stood the test of time, and has produced measurable improvements in the quality of the electrical and computer education at one or more institutions. Professor Mohammad Shahidehpour will receive the award at the March 2011 ECEDHA annual meeting.
