    IIT Advantage

Armour College of Engineering has a distinguished history of providing academic excellence in engineering education since 1893. At IIT, students continue to be involved in learning how to solve exciting practical engineering problems. The broad based curriculum provides students with opportunities to take courses from a variety of engineering disciplines.

Small class size and extensive research activities in the engineering college provide unique opportunities for students to work directly with nationally prominent researchers and faculty and to get involved in discovering new frontiers in engineering. Aerodynamics, Fluid dynamics, and materials processing and manufacturing are among the research areas in which students have opportunities to get involved.

The faculty have authored a number of texts in engineering, published thousands of research articles and invented numerous technologies and products, including magnetic recording tape, more efficient fuel cells and batteries, a process for recycling of tires, and a new tool for measuring lung performance. Several IIT faculty are international leaders in engineering research and education and have received numerous national and international awards, including educational awards from the American Society of Engineering Education, and research awards from several engineering professional societies.

The engineering college offers several innovative programs, including double majors and combination bachelor's/master's degrees in five years or less, and many specialization areas in science, engineering and management. In addition, merit undergraduate scholarships endowed by our alumni and merit scholarships supported by industry and government, such as the Energy/Environment/Economics (E3) and NASA Space Grant Scholarships are among those offered by the engineering college.

IIT partners with several industries and science and engineering research laboratories in the Chicago area to provide a unique opportunity for internships, co-op programs and practical training in engineering related areas. In addition, students have an opportunity to participate in several student chapter engineering professional societies.
