Message from the Chair
In my second five-year term as MMAE chair, I am delighted to have the opportunity to further facilitate the transition of this department toward a medium-sized department compared with our MMAE peers around the country. Our faculty, students, and staff have helped the department to experience continued productivity and innovation.
As part of our continuing commitment to foster innovation in the manufacturing sector, the MMAE department recently organized the First Annual Symposium on Sustainability and Product Development, in conjunction with Argonne National Laboratory, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, and the Chicago Manufacturing Center. Sponsored by the United States Small Business Administration and Congresswoman Melissa Bean, the symposium brought together business leaders, government officials, and academics from the nation’s top engineering programs to address the many challenges that today’s manufacturers in the United States face.
