Ed KaplanB.S. in Mechanical Engineering, 1965, CEO and Chairman, Zebra Technologies
Ed Kaplan, one of Chicago's most successful technology entrepreneurs, grew up in Chicago's East Rogers Park neighborhood, attended Senn High School and later IIT, where he graduated with a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering. When he was 26 years old, Kaplan co-founded cutting edge Zebra Technologies, the bar-coding company, and is now its CEO and chairman. In 2000, he funded the Ed Kaplan Entrepreneurship Studies Program, which prepares engineering students to be successful entrepreneurs and business leaders. Students develop business plans for new enterprises with consideration to time, money and consumer. Concepts that are commercially promising can qualify for seed money.
"IIT has a very bright future and I continue to be excited to be part of that future," says Kaplan. He has been an IIT trustee since 1993.
