Noel Deis
Electrical and Computer Engineering Undergraduate
Noel Deis scored the winning goal the day her soccer club coach at Albuquerque Academy forwarded her an email about student-athlete recruitment at IIT.
"I wanted to find an academically challenging tech school and play college soccer, which was a dream of mine. IIT was the perfect fit," she says. "As icing on the cake, I was honored to be selected as a Camras Scholar and no longer was in need of an athletic scholarship. IIT has truly offered me many opportunities I couldn't have gotten elsewhere."
Deis is among the top 1 percent of students applying to IIT and now in her third year, has been on the Dean's List nearly every semester. She is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical and computer engineering honor society of the IEEE, and as an admitted "math geek," enjoys helping students grasp difficult numbers concepts as a tutor. Deis plans to pursue a career, perhaps in teaching, that would allow her to combine her interests in math, engineering, and neuroscience.
Even with a full soccer slate, Deis upholds her record of academic excellence. For the 2010 season, she and six IIT teammates were named Daktronics National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Soccer-Athletes. To qualify, a student-athlete must have achieved junior status and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
