    University Scholarships

    Undergraduate Students

Scholarship eligibility is highly competitive and is determined by evaluating the academic data provided by the Undergraduate Admissions Office and financial data obtained from the FAFSA. The Office of Financial Aid administers renewals of the awards. Unless otherwise noted, these scholarships are renewable for four years and apply only to undergraduate students who maintain full-time status. Students are not eligible for renewal of their IIT scholarships while participating in a co-op program. All IIT scholarships require satisfactory academic progress and most have additional academic requirements. Students may check their award letter for more specific details regarding scholarships awarded.

For a full list of scholarships offered by IIT, visit the Undergraduate Admission website.

Semesters of Eligibility for Financial Aid

If you entered as a first-year student, your eligibility for assistance from the university is normally limited to your first 8 academic semesters (4 years) at IIT, or 10 academic semesters (5 years) for student in the College of Architecture, including academic course work completed at another institution during a regular academic year, regardless of whether or not you received financial aid while attend?ing that institution.

Semesters of assistance for a transfer student are determined after a review of the student's previous college enrollment.

Exceptions to these policies must be approved by the Committee on University Financial Aid which is chaired by the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Admission and Financial Aid; appeals for a one-semester extension to these policies as a result of a change in major, for instance, should be submitted in writing or via email to Ms. Nareth Phin, Assistant Director of Financial Aid at nphin@iit.edu. Students who may require a year-long course to meet degree requirements should make their educational plans explicit in the very first communication with the Office of Financial Aid.

The Office of Financial Aid expects that appeals to the standard financial aid policy, will be fully supported by the student's academic advisor, and/or Educational Services, and/or the Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs.

NOTE: This does not include course work taken while studying abroad through enrollment in a program that is not sponsored by the Illinois Institute of Technology.

    Graduate Students

    Fellowships, Scholarships, and Assistantships

Fulltime students applying to Professional Master's Programs who have exceptionally strong academic records may be eligible for one of a limited number of one-year, half-tuition academic scholarships. Fulltime students applying to M.S. and Ph.D. programs may qualify for fellowships, scholarships, and assistantships. You will be considered automatically for scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships at the time the admission decision is made — as long as you apply by the funding deadline listed on the admission application.

A fellowship provides financial support to defray the cost of tuition and a stipend for living expenses. A tuition scholarship provides all or part of the tuition only. Both are exempt from federal income taxes. Most degree programs provide financial support for teaching assistants who help with instruction and research assistants who work on funded research projects. Graduate assistants may receive support in the form of a stipend and/or tuition support.

Continuing students should apply to their major academic unit. Acceptance of an award or appointment for the fall semester is considered binding on the student after April 15. If a student's academic work is judged to be unsatisfactory, the award may be canceled at the discretion of the university at any time during the period covered.

Further information about scholarships for graduate students can be found on the Graduate Admission website.

    Alumni Tuition Benefits

ALUMED is a program of tuition credit for graduates of IIT or Midwest College of Engineering (MCE).

Alumni registering as part-time undergraduate students are permitted to register for one course offered by IIT each semester at a cost of one-half the current tuition rate. Alumni registering as part-time graduate students will receive a one third reduction of the tuition charges for one course.

Alumni registering as full-time students or as law students in a Chicago-Kent degree program are not eligible. ALUMED may not be used for enrollment in short courses, special problems, research, thesis and non-credit courses. Reductions in tuition may not be applied retroactively.

    International Students

A limited number of merit-based scholarships exist for which F-1 and J-1 international students may qualify. Students are automatically considered for these scholarships once they have been admitted to IIT. All of these are renewable as long as students maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
