    Federal and State Grants

Federal and state grant eligibility is determined on an annual basis using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) submitted to the Department of Education. To receive any federal/state grants, you must be an undergraduate student, a United States citizen or permanent resident, complete the FAFSA for the current academic year, and meet the remaining eligibility requirements. Below is a list of all the Federal and State Grants an undergraduate student may receive, as well as the eligibility criteria for each program.

Federal and state grants disburse to a student account after the add/drop date for the current term, providing all outstanding requirement s are satisfied. To review all the steps required for disbursement, please visit our financial aid disbursement policy on the policies and procedures portion of our web site.

    Federal Grant Programs

    Pell Grant
    - Federal Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a previous bachelor's or professional degree. Pell Grants are awarded based on demonstrated financial need as defined by the U.S. Department of Education. The availability and amounts depend upon funding from the federal government. The data from the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA must demonstrate eligibility and must be received by the IIT Office of Financial Aid before the last day of the student's enrollment.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) - The SEOG is awarded only to undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional financial need as determined by the U.S. Department of Education. IIT strongly encourages all students who wish to be considered for SEOG to submit the FAFSA to the U.S. Department of Education by the April 15 deadline. These funds are limited and awarded on a first come, first served basis.

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship - This scholarship program is administered by each state's educational agency. Each state creates its own eligibility for this scholarship. Depending on availability of funds, scholarships may be renewed for up to $1,500 for four years of undergraduate study. Contact your state educational agency.
    State Grant Program

    MAP Grant
This need-based grant program is awarded only to undergraduate Illinois residents attending an Illinois college or university who demonstrate financial need. The MAP Grant award is determined by credit hours enrolled each semester. MAP can only be used for tuition and mandatory fees. Applicants must submit a FAFSA to the U.S. Department of Education, indicate Illinois as their state of legal residence, and select an eligible Illinois school as first school choice.

MAP Grant funds will be requested from the State of Illinois after the first day of each semester for students who have submitted proof of Illinois residency. Map Grant awards will not be adjusted due to enrollment changes after the add/drop deadline has passed for the current term. The estimated amount of the award is based on enrollment of 15 credit hours or more per semester, if the student indicated on the FAFSA full-time enrollment. If actual enrolled credits is different, the amount of the award will be adjusted according to guidelines outlined by the State of Illinois.

Any student who fails to complete required financial aid paperwork, such as verification, by the last day of attendance will not have their MAP payment processed.

The MAP program is funded by the State of Illinois and through the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). For more in depth information on the IL Map Grant, please visit the ISAC website: http://www.collegezone.com/416_891.htm.
