    Greetings. You may already be aware of the recent debate regarding the State of Illinois budget and the current state budget plan to reduce MAP funding. The fiscal year 2010 (FY2010) budget that was agreed upon by the governor and state legislators significantly reduces the amount of funds available for 2009-10 MAP awards. As a result, eligible students will receive one-half of the annual award that was announced at start-up.

    IMPORTANT: Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) Update


    Dear Student and Family:

    As a resident of Illinois and a student who has been awarded the Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grant as part of your overall financial aid package at Illinois Institute of Technology, you may be aware of the recent debate regarding the State of Illinois budget and the current state budget plan to reduce MAP funding. This unfortunate state of affairs will affect every college and university in the state of Illinois eligible to receive MAP funds.

    07.13.09: New Income-Based Repayment Plan Now Available!

    Effective July 1, 2009, borrowers may enroll in a new income-based repayment plan designed to make federal student loan payments more affordable. This program is especially helpful to borrowers with high student loan debt and low earnings, as the program utilizes a calculation that caps the total repayment amount based on family size and income.

    Under this new program, after 25 years of qualifying payments, any remaining student loan debt will be forgiven. Additionally, if you hold an eligible public service position, any remaining student loan debt will be forgiven after 10 years of qualifying payments and continuous public service.

    04.09.09: Karen Ryan Memorial Scholarship Fund

    The Chicago Metro Chapter #325 of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is currently seeking applications for the Karen Ryan Memorial Scholarship Fund. Applicants must be enrolled in a course of study leading to a bachelor degree, associate's degree or certification in a construction industry related program. Awards are made in strict adherence with EED guidelines and according to the qualifications of the applicants. Women and men are eligible and encouraged to apply.

    Deadline for applications is May 16, 2009. No applications will be accepted after this date.


    03.27.09: Kelly Engineering Resources

    Kelly Engineering Resources — specializing in engineering recruiting and career placement — announces its seventh annual Future Engineers Scholarship Program. Through this national program, engineering students have the opportunity to compete for a $5,000 scholarship based on academic performance and a written essay. The application deadline is October 15, 2009, and scholarship funds will be awarded in January 2010 to be used toward eligible expense for tuition, fees, books, and room and board.

    03.26.09: $1,000 Harriet Irsay Scholarship Grant

    American Institute of Polish Culture

    Deadline — April 20, 2009

    Since 1992, the Scholarship Committee of the American Institute of Polish Culture in Miami has awarded over $175,000 in scholarship aid to over 150 talented American students of Polish descent.

    This year, the Committee will award ten to fifteen scholarship grants of $1,000 each, for the 2009/2010 academic year in certain fields.

    They are awarded on a merit basis to full time undergraduates or graduates who are American citizens or permanent residents, preferably of Polish heritage.

    03.02.09: SHPE Chicago Chapter and ComEd Scholarship

    This is a reminder that the SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) Chicago Chapter and ComEd Scholarship deadline is approaching soon. Undergraduate and graduate Hispanic students majoring in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and whose primary residence is in Illinois qualify for the $2,000 scholarships. The application in electronic version can be downloaded from http://www.shpechicago.org/. The deadline is approaching very soon on March 9, 2009.

    02.19.09: IIT Engineers Rank Among Nation's Top-Salaried Employees

    According to the online 2008 College Salary Report issued by PayScale, Inc., students who earn B.S. degrees in engineering from IIT rank number 12 for highest mid-career and starting median salaries among graduates from other U.S. engineering colleges. To derive the data, PayScale surveyed bachelor's degree holding graduates (without higher degrees) who are full-time employees in the United States. In another survey, PayScale reported the best undergraduate college degrees by starting median and mid-career median salaries, and included as the top four salary-earning degrees: chemical, computer, electrical, and aerospace engineering, respectively. PayScale, a market leader in global online compensation data, was launched in 2002 and offers the "world's largest database of salary information" to help employees find their worth.

    02.12.09: Summer Program for Undergraduates

    The University of Colorado at Boulder Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering will be offering a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (NSF-REU) summer program in Functional Materials Science and Engineering. This flyer (PDF) contains a brief description of the program. This program is a fun, challenging, and exciting summer research opportunity.     12.23.08: Closing for the Holidays

    The Office of Financial Aid will be closing for the holidays at noon tomorow (Wednesday, December 24) and will reopen Monday, January 5, 2009.

    12.08.08: ComEd/NLEI Latino Scholarship is About to Begin

    Another round of the ComEd/NLEI Latino Scholarship is about to begin starting December 1, 2008, with a strict deadline of 5:00 pm, Friday, January 23rd, 2009.

    12.03.08: Prior Year Loans

    Citibank will no longer offer prior year loans to cover past due charges as of Dec. 15, 2008. If you're interested in finding a lender that does offer prior year loans to cover past due charges, please refer to our Preferred Lenders page.


    11.24.08: Announcing the 2009 Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship - now accepting applications

    Dr. Anita Borg (1949-2003) devoted her life to revolutionizing the way we think about technology and dismantling the barriers that keep women and minorities from entering the computing and technology fields. In honor of Anita's vision, Google is proud to announce the 2009 Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship, awarding a group of female students each a $10,000 scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. All finalists and scholarship recipients will also be invited to attend a 3-day Scholars' Retreat at the Googleplex in Mountain View, CA in June 2009.

    09.02.08: Additional Funds for Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan

    On May 7, 2008, President George W. Bush signed legislation that increased loan limits for undergraduate students. Students may now borrow an additional $2,000.00 from the unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan program for the 2008-09 academic year. If you want this additional $2,000.00, you must notify the Office of Financial Aid via email at finaid@iit.edu. Please make sure to include both your name and student ID number in your email. You do not need to contact your lender nor do you need to complete an additional master promissory note. If you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Financial Aid at 312.567.7219.


    03.10.08: The myIIT Portal and Financial Aid

    02.29.08: Change in ACG/SMART Policy

    Please note that effective for the 2008-2009 academic year, all ACG and SMART Grants will be awarded during the month of June after spring 2008 grades are posted. This change is being made in order to give students more accurate awards and to comply with Federal Law. As such, initial awards will not have these funds included on them. All students that are found to be eligible for the ACG/SMART grants will receive a revised award in June. Students can begin to view their awards through the myIIT Portal beginning the week of March 10th.


    02.04.08: Limited Access Statement � Elevator Replacement in Main Building

    The Main Building elevator will be out of service starting on Monday, February 4, 2008 for approximately ten weeks while a new elevator is installed. For the duration of this construction, our office will be accessible only by stairs.

    For anyone with mobility issues needing access to Financial Aid, an alternate location has been established in Wishnick Hall, room 301. If you wish to meet with our staff in Wishnick 301, you must call or email the Office of Financial Aid to make an appointment beforehand. We will strive to make staff available on short notice for general business or inquiries.

    10.20.07: Update your contact information with FAFSA before January 1, 2008

    In preparation for the 2008-2009 FAFSA Renewal Application process, the U.S. Department of Education and Office of Financial Aid remind students to update their email addresses, physical mailing addresses and other contact information before January 1, 2008, so that renewal application information can be delivered in a timely manner.

    Students can update their email addresses, physical mailing addresses, and other contact information by visiting the FAFSA website. Contact information can be viewed via the "Student Access" section of the site and updated via the "Corrections" section of the site. Students can also update contact information on their Student Aid Report (SAR) and mail to the FAFSA processor at the address provided on the SAR.

    Students with questions about the use of FAFSA on the web should call 1.800.4FED.AID for assistance.


    04.03.07: New policy regarding loan approvals

    Attention Students:

    Beginning with the 2007-2008 academic year, all incoming freshmen, transfer students, and continuing students must notify the Office of Financial Aid regarding the loan amount (Perkins and Stafford) they wish to accept before we will approve the loan.

    Acceptable forms of notification include:

    • Accepting the loan amount desired on Web for Students
    • Returning your signed Award Letter indicating the loan amount desired � Incoming Freshmen Only
    • Completing the appropriate loan amount request form here
    • Visiting the Office of Financial Aid to sign a statement indicating your desired loan amount

    The Office of Financial Aid will not approve any loan without expressed written acceptance from the student.
