Housing Scholarships PolicyAwarding Policy
Housing scholarship awards are granted to incoming students through the undergraduate admissions process. The amounts of the housing scholarship awards vary and are awarded by the Office of Admission. All students are considered for these awards, however not all students are guaranteed a housing award. Housing scholarship awards include, but are not limited to, the following: IIT Housing Scholarships, Athletic Room & Board, ROTC Room & Board.
Housing awards are available each semester an undergraduate student is enrolled at least full time (12 credit hours or more). The housing awards are restricted to follow the Less than Full-Time Enrollment Policy, as outlined on Policies and Procedures web site.
Housing scholarship awards only apply toward housing charges billed by the Bursar's Office at IIT for one of the following undergraduate residences: McCormick Student Village, Gunsaulus Hall, or one of the university-owned Sorority houses.
The Housing Scholarship is not applicable to State Street Village*, off-campus housing, or for graduate apartments (Carmen Hall, Bailey Hall, or Cunningham Hall), unless the undergraduate student has special permission to move into the apartment option and are a lease holder.
*Students who matriculated prior to Spring 2012 are eligible to use their Housing Scholarship towards housing costs in State Street Village (SSV).
Each semester, the Office of Financial Aid will verify with the Office of Housing & Residential Services at the university to ensure compliance with the residence requirements. Housing scholarship awards will be removed from a student's account if a student is found not to be in compliance with the guidelines and restrictions set forth.
Residential Advisor Scholarship Policy
Students awarded a residential advisor (RA) scholarship will have their original housing scholarship award(s) removed. In the event that a student loses the RA scholarship, the original housing scholarship awards will be reinstated on the student’s account.
Tuition Remission or Tuition Exchange Policy
Students who qualify for tuition remission or tuition exchange are not eligible for the IIT Housing Scholarship. You may view the full tuition remission and tuition exchange scholarship policy here: Tuition Remission and Tuition Exchange Policy.
Satisfactory Academic Policy (SAP)
A student must continue to make satisfactory academic policy in order to continue to receive their Housing Scholarship. Please review the satisfactory academic policy on our web site for more detailed information related to SAP.
Other Policy Notes
- Housing Scholarships may not be used towards any housing cancellation fees incurred by students. Cancellation fees are the sole responsibility of the student.
- Students who receive full-tuition scholarships will be permitted to receive this Housing Scholarship toward their rooming charges at the university, providing the student meets the above outlined residency requirements.
- Housing scholarship awards will not apply to meal plans. In the event the housing charges are less than the housing scholarship awarded, the housing scholarship will be adjusted to only cover the billed portion for the given term.
