Mies Birthday Videos

On March 26, 2004, several hundred people gathered in S.R.Crown Hall to celebrate what would have been Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's 118th birthday. College of Architecture faculty, students and guests shared memories of Mies and celebrated his birthday parties of old with cocktails, cigars, live jazz, and a "Crown Hall" cake. A panel of Mies' students, friends and colleagues swapped stories in an informal presentation. The party also marked the official opening of the newly restored South Porch, put to use immediately by cigar smokers and guests wanting to enjoy an unusually mild evening.
