What is the difference between Master of Science and Professional Master's degrees?
The Master of Science (M.S.) degree is a traditional master's program requiring completion of a final thesis or research project. Anyone interested in eventually pursuing a Ph.D. should apply for an M.S. degree rather than a Professional Master's degree.

The Professional Master's degree is designed for students who are looking to advance their professional skills but who are not interested in pursuing a Ph.D. Coursework and faculty are the same as those for the Master of Science, but the program does not include a final research or thesis component. International students are welcome to apply for either M.S. or professional master's degrees. The GRE requirement is waived for applicants to a professional master's degree program who hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the United States with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0.

    What is IIT's ranking?
In 2005, IIT was once again named one of the top 81 "Best Value" colleges by the Princeton Review. IIT is one of only four Illinois universities to be so honored. The Princeton Review compiles data from 350 universities and surveys their students to determine which 81 schools the education services company commends for their outstanding academics, generous financial aid packages and relatively low costs. The list appears in the new 2006 edition of the Princeton Review book America's Best Value Colleges.

It is important to remember that the criteria for rankings tend to change. Many schools find that rankings do not adequately reflect their quality or programs, and that rankings should not be the sole basis of decision when choosing an academic program. Be sure to do your own independent research and decide for yourself what school and program are best for your individual needs.
