NOTE: For English translation services we recommend consulting http://www.atanet.org.

      Transcripts from institutions in India:

Individual mark sheets are required from all institutions attended and must contain all marks for each attempt at each examination. Any failures MUST be shown; consolidated transcripts cannot be accepted. If the statements of marks include abbreviated paper titles, or numbered papers without titles, please provide complete course titles.

NOTE: Exceptions for consolidated transcripts are for any IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) institution and Anna University.

Original mark sheets or photocopies that have been attested on each page by the Registrar or Controller of Examinations of the degree-granting university autonomous institution (not an affiliate college) are required. Attestations from anyone other than these offices such as individual professors, principals of the affiliated colleges or mark sheets from the affiliated college will NOT be accepted. To determine whether or not your institution is autonomous please refer to the following link: http://www.ugc.ac.in/inside/auto_college.html.

If the degree is completed, please submit photocopies of the degree certificate or provisional certificate.

All mark sheets must be sent to IIT by post, either by the institution or by the applicant.

NOTE: Documents attested by USEFI or EducationUSA are also considered acceptable.

      Transcripts from institutions in Iran:

Original official transcripts and degree certificate in Farsi stamped and signed by issuing institution and accompanied by word-for-word English translations.

Must be sent to IIT by post, either by the issuing institution or by the applicant in an envelope signed and sealed by the university.

NOTE: Translations must be made by a professional translator but may be stamped by the Ministry of Education.

      Transcripts from institutions in Pakistan:

Individual mark sheets are required from all institutions attended and must contain all marks for each attempt at each examination. Transcripts from institutions in Ghana, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone:

Official, original transcripts must be sent directly to IIT by the issuing institution via post.

Photocopies of all graduation certificates or diplomas issued in original language or English by the institutions attended. If in original language please include a professional English translation.

Transcripts from institutions in all other countries:

Official, original transcripts must be sent directly to IIT by post, either by the issuing institution or by the applicant. If in original language (non-English) please include a professional English translation.

Photocopies of all graduation certificates or diplomas issued in original language or English by the institutions attended. If in original language please include a professional English translation.

If your prior institution does not issue transcripts in English, both the original and a professional English translation are required. We recommend an ATA translator (http://www.atanet.org/). If your prior institution does not use the 4.0 scale grading system, your admission coordinator in the Office of Graduate and Professional Enrollment will evaluate your grades to that system upon review of your transcripts. In the case we are unable to evaluate and interpret credentials applicants will be required to have their documents professionally evaluated. Applicants must use World Education Services, Educational Credential Evaluators, or One Earth International Credential Evaluations. Official transcripts must be submitted along with the evaluation.

    • Professional statement
Your professional statement should be written in essay format and should include discussion of your reasons for pursuing graduate study, your academic background, your research interests (if applicable), relevant professional experience or related accomplishments to date, and your career goals. A typical statement is between 500-2000 words in length.

Your professional statement must be submitted through your online application and cannot be revised or resubmitted after you submit the application.

    • Letters of recommendation
Letters of recommendation should be submitted from individuals who are able to assess your academic and/or career achievements and potential. Recommenders may include professors or employers, but may not include family members or personal friends.

Master's degree applicants must submit two letters; Ph.D. applicants must submit three. Please do not submit more letters than are required for your application. Additional letters will not be reviewed by the admission committee.

All recommendations should be submitted electronically through the online application system. The link to create invitations to your recommenders will appear on your online application home page after you submit the completed application. Please ask your recommenders to add iit.edu and edu.185r.net to their email account's list of safe senders now, and request that they check their "junk" email filters if they have trouble receiving an invitation you send. Invitations are sometimes routed there in error.

Once you send an invitation, it cannot be deleted or changed. However, if you need to send an invitation to an additional recommender, or to re-send an invitation to a current recommender at a new email address, simply log in to your online application and use the invitation link. You can create a new invitation at any time.

Please allow three days from the time your recommender submits an online recommendation for your status to update online.

    • GRE scores
We require official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores sent directly to IIT by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Please ask ETS to send your scores to institution code 1318; no department code is required. Read complete GRE score requirements.

    • TOEFL or IELTS scores (if required)
Any applicant whose undergraduate degree was earned at an institution where the primary language of instruction is not English must submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores. Read complete English proficiency requirements.

We require official TOEFL or IELTS scores sent directly to IIT by the testing service. Please request that your scores be set to institution code 1318; no department code is required.

    • International applicants only: Financial support documents
IIT accepts proof of financial support in either of the following two formats:
      1. Bank official's signature and bank seal on IIT's Financial Support Form (pdf). Please read all instructions carefully to ensure that each required section of the form is complete.

      2. Original bank statement dated in the past six months, showing the required amount in your own or your sponsor's bank account. The statement must be on the bank's letterhead and bear the bank official's signature and stamp (bank seal). If your education will be sponsored by someone other than yourself, you must additionally submit a notarized letter from your sponsor confirming their plans to pay for your graduate studies. The letter must be signed and dated within the past one year.
Photocopied, scanned, or faxed documents cannot be accepted.

You may submit documents for up to three bank accounts that sum to the required total. Complete documentation (see options 1 or 2 above) is required for each account or each sponsor.

Proof of financial support may not include any frozen or locked funding. All monies must be readily available for use.

You may submit your financial support documents after being notified of admission, if you wish; however, an I-20 cannot be issued to any admitted student until valid documents have been received and approved by the Office of Graduate and Professional Enrollment. For this reason, we encourage you to submit them as early as possible.

Immigration regulations stipulate that financial support documents must be no more than six months old at the time an I-20 is issued. If your documents have expired at the time your admission decision is made, you will be asked to submit new documents. Exception: Students who are admitted to IIT with valid financial support documents and who subsequently defer their admission to a later term will not be required to submit new proof of financial support. A new I-20 will be issued based on the documents accepted for the original term of admission provided the document shows proof of funding for a tuition increase. If you are required to submit new financial documents you will be notified by Graduate Admission.

    • International applicants only: Passport identity page
A copy of your passport identity page may be submitted (a) by email to gradstu@iit.edu, or (b) by post to the Office of Graduate and Professional Enrollment at the address below. Please choose only one form of submission.

The copy of your passport identity page is not required for purposes of application review and admission decision, although applicants are strongly encouraged to submit it prior to admission, if possible. This documentation aids in efficient processing of your I-20, if you are admitted.

    • International transfer applicants only: School Transfer Form
The School Transfer Form (pdf) must be submitted by any international student currently studying on an F-1 visa who intends to transfer to IIT from another institution in the United States. It indicates the release of your I-20 by your current institution, permitting IIT to create a new I-20 for you. This form should be submitted only after you officially have been admitted to IIT.

Certificate and non-degree applicants must submit...
