About

Welcome to Illinois Institute of Technology - Graduate College

A degree from IIT brings alumni into the company of some of the most accomplished scientists and professionals anywhere. IIT graduates have made a dramatic impact on our world -- inventing the cell phone, laying the groundwork for the audio industry, and finding the cause of the hole in the atmosphere's ozone layer.

IIT faculty are involved in research that addresses our most pressing needs - national security, healthcare, energy, to name just a few. For example, some faculty have been developing technologies for detecting biological or chemical hazards, while others have been working to improve diagnostic techniques for breast cancer or to restore sight.

IIT architects (including Mies van der Rohe, the father of modern architecture) have designed many prominent buildings in Chicago and around the world, such as the John Hancock Center and IIT's own National Historic Landmark, S. R. Crown Hall. An international network of alumni and academic collaborations in India, China, Korea, and France, among others, extend IIT's global reach.

IIT is a private, Ph.D.-granting university with programs in engineering, science, psychology, architecture, business, design, technology, and law. One of the 16 institutions that comprise the Association of Independent Technological Universities (AITO), IIT offers exceptional preparation for professions that require technological sophistication. Through a committed faculty and close personal attention, IIT provides a challenging academic program focused by the rigor of real world.

IIT's internationally recognized faculty conducts basic and applied research in labs and research centers on campus, in cooperation with national research laboratories, and in collaboration with industry.
