Carman Hall
Carman Hall is a furnished apartment building for graduate students. A variety of apartments types are available, including studio and one-bedroom with den apartments. The apartments are available through a 10-month contract. Contracts are available August to May, with an option for an additional contract during the summer months. Based on availability, contracts can be renewed for consecutive academic terms.
Located on the north side of campus, Carman Hall was designed by the renowned Mies van der Rohe.
Presently, Bailey Hall and Cunningham Hall are closed for renovation. Carman Hall is open to eligible students.
Residence and Greek Life has a variety of campus housing options. IIT is growing and campus housing continues to be a commodity. It is strongly recommended that students apply for housing as early as possible.

Campus housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis. It is recommended that graduate students submit contracts for housing as early as possible.

Furniture package includes:
Studio: Each student is provided with a study desk with chair, dresser, extra-long twin bed with bunkable bed frame. The apartment is also provided with a couch and kitchen appliances (gas range and refrigerator).
One Bedroom with Den: Each student is provided with a study desk with chair, dresser, extra-long twin bed with bunkable bed frame. The apartment is also provided with a couch, dining room table with chairs and kitchen appliances (gas range and refrigerator).
Carman Hall contract terms are outlined in the 2012-2013 Room and Board contract.
Resident participation in a meal plan is not required in Carman Hall. Air conditioning, for an additional fee, is available through a rental program.
Carman Hall is an residential apartment building for graduate students. Residents must meet one or more of the following residency requirements:
- Registered graduate student at IIT, Shimer College or VanderCook College of Music.
- Registered undergraduate living with spouse or domestic partner.
- Registered undergraduate 23 years of age or older.
- Single undergraduate or graduate student with legal custody of child/dependant.
Current Carman residents who intend to live on campus during the summer must take part in the summer reservation process which is found on our website.

What furniture is provided?
Each student is provided with study desk with chair, dresser, extra-long twin bed. The apartment is also provided a couch, table with four chairs (one bedroom with den only), and kitchen appliances (gas range and refrigerator).
Can furniture be removed from the apartment?
Residents cannot remove University provided furniture. Residents needing accommodations can request furniture removal.

How do students pay for Carman Hall?
Residents make all payments through the Office of the Bursar. Payments are due each semester, similar to tuition.
What are the cancellation terms of the Carman Hall contract?

Does Carman Hall allow pets?
Carman Hall does not allow pets. Service animals are permitted. Contact the Office of Students with Disabilities for additional information.
Is smoking permitted?
All campus housing is compliant with State of IL indoor air quality policies. Smoking is only permitted outside of the building.
Is a pre-payment required?
For 2013-2014, there is no pre-payment to reserve a room if you are a current student returning to campus housing. However, you will have ten (10) business days to either make a $600.00 deposit payment or submit a Waiver Request form or your room reservation will be canceled.
