New / Incoming Student Room Reservation
Below is the information for the Room Reservation process for the 2013-2014 Academic Year.
Attention Incoming Students: Carman Hall will not be open to residents for Fall 2013, but will reopen for Spring 2014.
Information below is for new / incoming students for 2013-2014 (IIT, Shimer and Vandercook freshman, transfer, visiting, exchange, graduate). Returning students, please view information here.
Carman Hall, Gunsaulus Hall, McCormick Student Village and State Street Village will remain open during the winter break vacation period for 2013-2014.

New students are not required to make a campus housing pre-payment. Depending on your class year and college, students may be required to make an admissions prepayment. Contact the Office of Admissions for information about admissions prepayments at IIT. Vandercook College of Music and Shimer College will need to contact their Office of Admissions to determine if any additional prepayments or admissions deposits are required.
IIT students will be billed through their student account with the Office of the Bursar.
Shimer College and Vandercook College of Music will be billed and can make payments to their applicable college tuition office.
Housing & Residential Services provides a variety of room and meal plan options. Each option is available at a unique rate.
Illinois Institute of Technology recognizes paying for a high-quality education is a primary concern for students and their families. Providing accurate and timely room and board rates is important to Residence and Greek Life and Financial Aid.
When making decisions about room and board plans, please keep your Financial Aid award package in mind. Standard award packages are based off of the costs of a double occupancy McCormick Student Village room and the 14-Plus meal plan.
If you are utilizing Federal Financial Aid to cover some or all of your room and board charges, please contact the Office of Financial Aid to determine how your room and meal selection affects your out of pocket expenses. MSV offers many double occupancy standard double rooms. Participation in the Create Your Own, 14-Plus or Unlimited meal plan is required (see exceptions listed on the 2013-2014 Room and Board Rate sheet).
Live in the Helmet Jung designed State Street Village! SSV offers many options including semi-suites, studios and 2, 3 or 6-bedroom apartments. Freshman students are able to select SSV semi-suite only. Participation in the Create Your Own, 14-Plus or Unlimited meal plan is required (see exceptions listed on the 2013-2014 Room and Board Rate sheet).
Most exciting are new apartment options for IIT and Vandercook juniors, seniors, transfers and graduate students and Shimer College (all class years) in Gunsaulus Hall. These fully-furnished studio, 1-bedroom or 2-bedroom apartments are an exciting options. You will surely enjoy the brand new furniture, new elevators and front desk services in Gunsaulus Hall. A meal plan is not required in Gunsaulus Hall, however, it is available upon request. (Note: Meal plan is required for Shimer 1st year students.)

Carman Hall is a furnished apartment building for graduate students. A variety of apartments types are available, including fully-furnished studio and one-bedroom with den apartments. The apartments are available through a 10-month contract. Located on the north side of campus, Carman Hall was designed by the renowned Mies van der Rohe.
- Log onto myroom.iit.edu to submit your campus housing materials. Use your username and MyIIT password.
- Select "Apply Online" (left hand side of page).
- Select a meal plan based on room type and academic standing requirements.
- Carefully review and electronically sign the 2013-2014 Room and Board Contract. This is an academic year contract with fees for early termination. You can view the 2013-2014 Room and Board Contract at: housing.iit.edu.
Upon successfully completing the room reservation process, you will receive an email confirmation of your room assignment and meal plan for Fall 2013.
Illinois Institute of Technology is committed to providing all of its students with a comprehensive educational experience. There are numerous educational and social benefits for first year students living in the residence halls that may not be realized by those living off campus. With this understanding, IIT requires all first year students to live on campus effective Fall Semester, 2003. Campus housing has wide variety of room and board options, consider living on campus. First Year Live-On Requirement:
First year undergraduate students enrolled as full-time students, as defined in the Illinois Institute of Technology Undergraduate Bulletin, will be required to live in campus residence halls. Students first enrolling in the summer are required to live in the residence halls during the Summer, Fall, and Spring Semesters. Students first enrolling in the fall are required to live in the residence halls during the Fall and Spring Semesters. Students first enrolling in the spring are required to live in the residence halls during the Spring Semester.
Exemption from the First Year Live-On Requirement:
Those individuals who live full time with their parent or guardian during first term of enrollment are exempt from the requirement to live in the residence halls. Students may be exempt from the requirement to live in the residence halls while they reside in the principal residence of a parent or legal guardian.
Requests for exemption to the First Year Live-On Requirement on the basis of compelling individual circumstances will be considered.
Requests for exemption must be submitted according to the following schedule:
June 1 for Fall Semester first enrollment
November 1 for Spring Semester first enrollment
May 1 for Summer Term first enrollment

DO NOT submit a Room and Board contract if you intend to waive the campus housing requirement.
June 1, 2013: Preferential deadline to notify Residence and Greek Life of any accessibility considerations that may impact your housing assignment.
July 2, 2013: Room assignment begins for Freshmen and other Incoming Students.
August 15: Official opening of all campus residence halls.
May 12: All residence halls close for summer (summer housing is available, details posted in April 2013).
