Faculty Speak at ASA Annual Meeting
The Department of Social Sciences was well represented at this year's American Sociological Association annual meeting, held August 20-23 in Las Vegas. Visiting Assistant Professor David Schalliol presented his paper "More than Density and Dereliction: Federal-Municipal Urban Policy, Neighborhood Stability and the Built Environment" for the Section on Community and Urban Sociology. Instructor Anna Colaner presented her paper "Multiple Institutional Logics in the Child Care Market" for the Organizations, Occupations, and Work Section roundtable.Instructor Benjamin Merriman presented his paper "The Editorial Board Meeting at a Literary Magazine: A Preliminary Report on Literary Judgment" at the Regular Session on Ethnography.Christena Nippert-Eng, associate professor of sociology and department chair, was an invited speaker for the panel "Privacy in the Digital Age." She also chairedthe Communication and Information Technologies section of the ASA this past year and oversaw the section's activities at the meetings.
