    May 28-30, 2014
    35 people with experience in food safety training attended the first run through of the draft FSPCA curriculum for human food. Valuable feedback was collected on suggested modifications to enhance delivery for the intended audience of small- to mid-sized processors.

    The FSPCA hosted a Special Session at the IAFP Annual Meeting to discuss curriculum development, outreach activities, and FDA expectations.  Speakers included Purnendu Vasavada, Jenny Scott, Robert Brackett, Katherine Swanson, and Glenn Black.

    June 6-7, 2013
    Steering Committee members convened in Washington, DC for a face to face meeting to review the overall progress of the FSPCA efforts including curriculum development, outreach, certification and business plan.

    The Working Group Chairs and Vice Chairs met face-to-face at IFSH to discuss detailed contents for the Hazard Analysis section of the core curriculum.  The materials developed from these groups were collated by the Editorial Committee, which is charged with synchronizing the input from the Working Groups for consistency.  In addition, the Working Groups reviewed the curriculum's Table of Contents, and Chapters 1 and 2.

    Over 20 members of the FSPCA Steering Committee met in Washington DC to discuss a draft of the FSPCA standardized course curriculum that is designed to help food manufactures comply with FSMA. 

    September 17-18, 2012
    The Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) met in Chicago to deliberate the topics and content of its training curriculum designed to help the food industry comply with the hazard analysis and preventive controls provisions of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Over 30 active FSPCA members including the FSPCA Steering Committee members, Working Group Chairs, Vice Chairs, Working Group Liaisons, and food industry subject-matter expert volunteers participated in the FSPCA Preventive Controls curriculum development. The outcomes of the meeting included the following:

    • Discussed details of the proposed course in the context of FSMA Section 103
    • Agreed on the concepts and key competencies and learning objectives to be included in the FSPCA courses
    • Reached consensus on the course outline
    • Reviewed draft training materials that the FSPCA Working Groups had developed over the past several months

    A FSPCA Editorial Subcommittee will be established in October to review the draft training materials from the Working Groups. A preliminary draft curriculum with key chapter outlines will be developed by December 2012.

    Purnendu Vasavada presented an FSPCA update at the Artisan Cheese Food Safety forum on August 2.  Over 75 people, including delegates from Canada, Australia and Europe attended. Download the presentation.

    David Fairfield (NGFA) made an FSPCA presentation on August 3 at the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) meeting in Denver. The meeting was attended by over 350 state/federal feed regulatory officials and industry representatives. The focus of the presentation was on the FSPCA’s animal food activities.     The FSPCA held an informative session at the IAFP Annual Meeting on July 27, 2015 from 5:15-6:00 pm Pacific. An update on the FSPCA activities and information on how participants could take advantage of preventive controls resources was presented, followed by Q&A session. Download the presentation.

    Dr. Robert Brackett, Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Vice President and Director, Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH) presented an FSPCA update during a lunch break session (12:50 – 1:20 pm Eastern) at the FDA FSMA Implementation Public Meeting on April 23, 2015. Kathy Gombas, Senior Advisor, Office of Food Safety, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, FDA moderated the session.

    On April 21, 2015, at the IAFP symposium in Cardiff, U.K., Purnendu Vasavada presented a talk on "FSMA Preventive Controls and FDA expectations for Foreign Suppliers” which included updates and information on the FSPCA. Over 80 people attended to symposium. Download the presentation.

    At the Illinois Institute of Technology/Institute for Food Safety and Health (IIT/IFSH) Annual Stakeholders Meeting held in Chicago, IL, Dr. Robert Brackett discussed the FSPCA as a part of his “Welcome and IFSH Updates” address. Jenny Scott highlighted the role of the FSPCA in developing the Preventive Controls training programs in her presentation “Meeting FDA’s Vision for a Modernized Food Safety System”. Dr. Purnendu C. Vasavada delivered a presentation entitled “Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA): An Update.”
