Degrees and Training
IFSH houses the Illinois Institute of Technology’s graduate programs in food safety, food technology and food process engineering, offering master’s of science (MS) degrees, professional non-thesis degrees (MAS), and professional certificates in collaboration with the IIT’s Chemical and Biological Engineering and Biological, Chemical, and Physical Sciences departments. IFSH’s graduate program has grown steadily over the last few years, from 11 students in 2004 to a record enrollment of more than 90 students from a dozen countries in 2010.
Designed to develop expertise in food safety and technology for food science and management positions in both the private and public sectors, IFSH’s graduate degree programs have flexible structures that meet the needs of both full-time students and industry professionals interested in advanced training. Students may attend part-time or full-time, selecting thesis or non-thesis options, on campus or at distance learning sites. Classes are offered in the evenings and weekends and can be accessed from off-campus IITV sites. The educational program also includes a seminar series open to students, members and industry professionals.
