The Preventive Controls Summit 2013
IIT/IFSH and The National Food Lab co-hosted the Food Safety Preventive Controls Summit on October 9 at the Hermann Hall of IIT’s main campus. The Summit began with an opening reception at Gibson’s Steakhouse on the evening of October 8th with over 95 guests in attendance. Over 140 industry leaders voluntarily convened at the Summit to address two critical aspects of food safety, namely validation and verification. The outcome of the Summit will be a framework for food companies, irrespective of size, to conduct business in compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The Summit provided an unparalleled opportunity for invitees to help shape the defining approach to validation and verification. Participants from all sectors of the nation’s food industry were asked to contribute their knowledge, expertise, and active participation to the development of a white paper. The white paper (slated for publication in the first quarter of 2014) will serve as a toolkit for companies to comply with the new FSMA rules and its robust food safety regulations.
