Residence Hall Complex

(1948, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; Mittelbusher and Tourtelot; others)

This complex is thought to have resulted from an original site plan by Ludwig Hilberseimer, a close associate of Mies's and an IIT architecture faculty member. The new main entrance on the west side of the complex was completed by IIT Architects, the campus architecture firm based in the College of Architecture, in 1992 under a grant from the McCormick Tribune Foundation. The cafeteria, lounges, and other common areas were renovated under the same grant.

Each of IIT's six residence halls serves as a social center, study hall, and meeting place. The halls offer lounges, exercise rooms, and computer facilities. The complex also houses IIT's Women's Center.
