Delivery
IIT Online Delivers.In partnership with faculty and departments, IIT Online delivers Internet (asynchronous), video-conference (synchronous), and televised (synchronous) courses. Aside from ongoing courses available through Professional Learning, all distance learning courses follow the same academic calendar as the University and typically meet for a 16-week semester. Courses follow the same syllabus. Exams follow the same schedule. Exams are typically administered at local testing centers for students in the United States.
- Internet Lecture Delivery (Asynchronous)
Most Internet lectures are streamed audio and video with synchronized slides (to see a course in action, check out demos 1, 2, or 3). Some courses are delivered as video-only, without synchronized slides. IIT Online posts lectures in our Blackboard Learning Management System within 48 hours of the live session and oftentimes, we post lectures in 24 hours or less. Course Lectures with designated Internet sections are then available for review on-demand 24/7 for the duration of the course.
Video-Conference Delivery (Synchronous)
Video-conference courses are live courses, typically arranged by department due to special circumstances involving remote locations. - Televised Lecture Delivery (Synchronous)
Televised lectures are delivered via microwave signal to remote location sites in the Chicagoland area equipped to receive televised transmissions from IIT. Students tune into a secured channel via a channel box connected to a television set at a viewing site. This live delivery method allows students to interact with the instructor. A small number of courses may be delayed broadcast or rebroadcast courses and students interact with instructors by email or by phone during instructors' office hours.
Corporate sites are restricted to employees of the organization. Public sites are open to all students IIT students may attend any public site as long as there is sufficient space and the student is officially enrolled for that site. All public viewing sites have seating limitations. Some public viewing sites are not open during all IIT course meeting times.
