International Distance Learning
Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), founded in 1890 in Chicago is a Ph.D.-granting university that awards undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering, the sciences, mathematics, architecture, and psychology, and graduate degrees in design, business and law.
IIT's mission is to educate people from all countries for complex professional roles in a changing technological world and to advance knowledge through research and scholarship.
In Chicago, IIT has developed a curriculum that prepares students for leadership in an increasingly complex and culturally diverse global workplace. In India, since 1997, the university has offered several of its most cutting-edge professional master's degree programs via asynchronous multimedia distance learning. Professional master's degrees, some times called "taught" master's, require no thesis.
Lectures presented by streamed video on the Internet bring a new level of convenience to graduate students whose work and family responsibilities make attendance at regular classes on campus impossible. Homework and projects are submitted via, email or ftp. Exams are sent via air courier.
The standards, requirements, and degrees granted are the same as in the United States. In fact, working professionals at dozens of companies in the U.S. pursue their master's degrees via IIT's online programs.
