Welcome

       You are currently in the Welcome Center, which offers an introduction to the university—past and present—its surrounding community, and its famous architectural heritage.

       To your right is the Founders Wall, which depicts the seven pivotal figures in IIT’s history. From left to right, they are: Philip Danforth Armour, Sr., Robert A. Pritzker, Henry T. Heald, Frank W. Gunsaulus, Allen C. Lewis, Robert W. Galvin, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. To learn more about each of these men, press the , located on the pedestal in the middle of the Welcome Center.

       The portraits are composed of tiny universal symbols for humans that are designed to capture the range of activities that will take place in The McCormick Tribune Campus Center.

       In the center of the room is a white space on the floor. This is a viewing area for four videos that introduce visitors to IIT’s tradition of innovation ; the university today ; Mies van der Rohe and his tremendous impact on IIT and architecture around the world ; and the university’s diverse and dynamic community . To activate each of these videos, press the buttons located in the console by the viewing area.
