Fruit Polyphenolics Research Volunteers Needed

Would you be interested in participating in a research study? Investigators at IIT are studying the effects of fruit polyphenolics (phytonutrients) on risk factors for chronic disease.

You can participate in the study if you are:
1. An overweight man or woman—BMI 25-34.9 kg/m2 (click here to calculate your BMI)
2. Relatively healthy and NOT taking cholesterol medication
3. A nonsmoker who doesn’t have diabetes or hypertension
4. Between 40 and 65 years of age

Blood samples will be collected at each visit.
You will be provided with a dinner, breakfast and test beverage as part of the study.
Your blood pressure, blood cholesterol and sugar level will be checked at no cost to you.
You will be compensated.

Final Chance to Submit for Fall Freshman 15

The deadline has been extended for the Office of Campus Life’s Freshman 15 program. Today (Friday, May 17) is your last opportunity to submit a program!

This program, which is a list of 15 campus programs/events, is geared toward helping first-year students fully experience what it is to be an IIT student. Campus Life is currently taking submissions for events that departments, student organizations or other IIT-affiliated organizations will sponsor for the fall 2013 semester. Having your event listed as part of the Freshman 15 won’t require any extra work for your department but will provide you with another avenue to market to students. We are looking for a mix of social, educational and traditional events.

Memorial Day Timesheet Deadlines for Biweekly Paid Employees

ATTENTION BIWEEKLY PAID EMPLOYEES

Monday, May 27, 2013, all IIT offices will be closed to commemorate the Memorial Day holiday. Because of the holiday, the approved time sheet due for the period 05/12/13 – 05/25/13, for the pay date of Friday, May 31, 2013, must be approved by the departments and received by the Payroll Department no later than 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Please review the deadlines listed below:

Timesheet submission to approvers: Before 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Employees may need to estimate the hours they will work on Friday, May 24, 2013.
Timesheet approvers: Review your queues and complete approval of all timesheets by 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2013.

Because Monday, May 27, 2013, is an IIT Holiday, the time sheets that are normally due to be submitted to approvers by 10:00 on this Monday will be due earlier by 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2013.

The Payroll Office cannot guarantee the availability of a paycheck for timesheets received after the above stated deadlines.

Identity Theft Brown Bag

IITRI is pleased to offer a brown bag presentation by Dan Bulley of the Identity Theft Resource Center that will focus on both awareness and prevention. He will cover areas of vulnerability for you and your children, prevention tips and what to do if identify theft happens to you.

The presentation will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at noon in the University Tech Park conference rooms C and D. Feel free to bring your lunch.

Imagetec to Take Copier Meter Readings this Week

Per the terms of agreements specific to IIT Departments having Imagetec maintained equipment, Imagetec’s technicians will be on campus conducting a walkthrough to inspect and collect updated copy counts on the machines.

The technicians will be wearing Imagetec shirts and have identification.

This walkthough will take place over May 13 – 17.

If you have entered into an agreement for Imagetec maintenance, expect to be part of this inspection. It should not be disruptive to your department and is necessary to reconcile the actual copies made as compared to the estimated copies previously charged.

Corporate America Credit Union at IIT Tower Today

Corporate America Credit Union will be on site Thursday, May 9 in the IIT Tower to meet with employees. The representative will be available from 11:30 am – 2 pm. You may find that credit unions offer discounts for certain services and competitive rates as compared to banks.

2013-2014 Student Handbook

Judges Needed for IIT Research Day Student Poster Competition

The Office of Research is searching for faculty judges for the IIT Research Day Student Poster Competition. The competition will be held Wednesday, April 24 and judges may arrive any time between 12:45–2:15 pm. The total time commitment is expected to be less than 30 minutes.

QWL: Oliver’s Cafe Outing

The Quality of Work Life’s next restaurant outing will be to Oliver’s Café at 451 W. 31st St. Featured on 190 North last month, this BYOB restaurant has some pretty good food! We are planning to go the week of May 13. The cost will be $35 per person and include an appetizer, entrée and dessert (tax and tip are included).
