Architecture Student Receives Special Mention in Schiff Competition
June 14, 2013IIT College of Architecture graduate student Penelope Phylactopoulos received a Special Mention in the 2013 Schiff Foundation Fellowship for Architecture competition. Each year, IIT, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Illinois at Chicago nominate a select group of students to submit projects developed in advanced design studios. Phylactopoulos, who was mentored by Professor John Ronan, entitled her project "Silence Retreat." Only two awards were given this year, first place and the special mention. -
Master of Landscape Architecture student Heidi Petersen has a guest post on the American Society of Landscape Architects’ blog, “The Dirt,” discussing the movement of retirees to urban and suburban locations that emphasize walkability, sociability, and access to green spaces.

IIT Students Honored by Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago for 2013 EPA Campus RainWorks Challenge Win
May 17, 2013The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago issued a resolution on May 16 at its board meeting in recognition of the IIT student entry in the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Campus RainWorks Design Challenge. Students from IIT College of Architecture and the Landscape Architecture Program, IIT Armour College of Engineering and IIT Stuart School of Business, led by Studio Assistant Professor Mary Pat Mattson and Paul Anderson, were recognized for their first-place design of green infrastructure to manage stormwater on the campus of IIT. -

May 15, 2013The "AZAHAR Architecture" team, which included IIT student, Alejandro Daras (Master of Architectural Engineering candidate) took the top title of International Skyscraper and Mock Firm Champion at the fifth annual Mock Firms International Skyscraper Competition. -

IIT Architecture Adjunct Associate Professor Richard Blender Wins AIA Chicago Small Project Citation of Merit
May 14, 2013IIT Architecture Adjunct Associate Professor Richard Blender won an AIA Chicago Small Project Citation of Merit for Articulated Pods, "the gut-renovation of a 3,600 square foot residence located on the top floor and penthouse of an existing 5-unit building. -
IIT Architecture Adjunct Professor David Woodhouse’s firm’s project, the planned sailing center for the Northwestern University Campus, is featured in this month’s issue of Chicago Architect magazine.
