Welcome letter from Dean of Students
Welcome to the IIT community and thank you for giving us the opportunity to educate and assist in the development of your sons and daughters. The mission of the Illinois Institute of Technology is to "advance knowledge through research and scholarship, to cultivate invention improving the human condition, and to educate students from throughout the world for a life of professional achievement, service to society, and individual fulfillment." We are confident that your involvement as a parent/guardian will help us with our mission and give your son and/or daughter the confidence they need to succeed.
As parents/guardians of IIT students you have many opportunities to get involved on campus and stay connected. We are proud of the vibrancy of student life on campus.As we enter our Summer Orientation Program we are excited to for students to have more time to get involved before the first day of classes. Once the academic year begins, more opportunities become available when new and returning students come together. The Student Organization Fair allows all IIT students to explore over 80 options for extracurricular experiences. "Taste of the Quad" is the perfect chance to learn about Fraternity & Sorority Life on campus. Union Board, the main student programming board, always has creative ideas for student programming.
There are also plenty of opportunities to focus on academic success. Student Affairs and the Undergraduate College are partners in assisting students with their academic success through our retention program. This program involves IIT staff and academic advisors following-up individually with students and giving them specific resources to thrive in the classroom. We also hope students take the time to visit the Academic Resource Center (ARC) on the first floor of Hermann Hall.
Finally, our "back yard," the City of Chicago is the perfect compliment to the IIT experience. The city also provides a great place for you to visit.
