Project Update

The Perfect Power project is in its first year of implementation. The image below is a diagram of the High Reliability Distribution System (HRDS) consisting of seven loops (colored lines) which will deliver electricity to each sector, and smart switches (small white boxes) to control the flow of electricity.

Every building on Main Campus will be incorporated in the HRDS. Should a temporary loss of power occur at any IIT building, the smart switch will automatically reroute power to the other buildings, ensuring that the rest of IIT will continue to have power while isolating the problem. Because of this system, IIT engineers will be able to find the cause of the outage immediately and restore power much more quickly.
