Subject: Employment of Relatives

5.01 As with all other employment, consideration for employment of relatives within the immediate family1 of members of the faculty, staff or administration must be initiated by making application through Human Resources.

5.02 The university will employ a relative of an employee provided the individual is the best qualified candidate for employment. The recommendation to hire must be approved by Human Resources. However, the hired relative will not be assigned work which permits one of the relatives to direct, review, or evaluate the work of the other, or which permits one to, in any way, affect the terms and conditions of employment of the other.

5.03 If one employee marries another, both may retain their positions if one is not under the direct or indirect supervision of the other and neither occupies a position of influence over the other’s employment, evaluation, promotion, compensation or any other personnel-related consideration.


1Parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, spouse or domestic partner, children, in-laws, aunt, uncle or other person whose relationship to the employee is in the role of the immediate family as listed.
