| 1.01 |
Full-Time Employee - Employees are full-time if the non-academic position in which they are employed maintains a minimum of 38.75 hours per week. All paid time off and fringe benefits apply. Athletic department coaches in ten-month positions are considered full-time. |

| 1.02 | Part-Time Employee
- Employees are included into one of the two below-listed categories if the
non-academic position in which they are employed maintains less than 38.75
hours per week.
Less than 23.25 hrs/wk - no other benefits apply
At least 23.25 but less than 38.75
hrs/wk - paid time benefits such as holidays, vacation and sick leave are
pro-rated and participation in the fringe benefit plans are available. Tuition
benefits are pro-rated based on hours worked. |

| 1.03 | Temporary Employee
- Employees are temporary if the position in which they are employed is
expected to continue for less than twelve months. No benefits apply. |

| 1.04 | Full-Time Faculty
- Employee appointed to the rank of Lecturer, Instructor, Assistant Professor,
Associate Professor, Professor, Research Professor or others with a full-
time academic appointment with the university. All fringe benefits apply
to full-time faculty appointments. Paid time off benefits do not
accrue. |

| 1.05 | Adjunct and Part-Time
Faculty - These appointments are made on a year-to-year or
semester-to-semester or quarter-to-quarter basis, subject to the achievement
of a mutually satisfactory agreement at the time of appointment. Such an
appointment is not permanent and carries no implication of a continuing
employment relationship. Eligibility for benefits does not apply. |

| 1.06 | Research Personnel
- See Policy B. 2.00. |
|
| 1.07 | Student Employee
- Employees are student workers if the position in which they are employed
normally requires up to 20 hours per week. Student employees working more
than 20 hours per week or enrolled for less than 12 credit hours (less than
9 for law school) will be subject to Social Security and Medicare taxes.
No benefits apply. |

| 1.08 | Retiree - Employee
who retires with five years of service and has attained age 55. |
|
| 1.09 | Union Employee
- Employee covered by a collective bargaining contract which defines terms
and conditions of employment. |
|
| 1.10 | Exempt (Salaried)
Employee - Professional, Executive and Administrative staff as defined
by the Wage and Hour Law. |
|
| 1.11 | Non-Exempt Employee
- Hourly paid employees entitled to overtime pay for all hours worked in
excess of 40 hours per week as defined by the Wage and Hour Law. |

| 1.13 | Probationary Employee
Upon Hire - A staff member during the first six months of employment. Supervisors must document cause for separation if the employee is not retained. The probationary employee does not have recourse to the grievance procedure. Upon Transfer - A non-exempt employee during the first six months of employment in a new job classification or department. This employee retains grievance rights to challenge an action removing him/her from this position.
