Subject: Unemployment Compensation It is IIT’s policy to pay unemployment compensation to anyone entitled to it; however all department heads and supervisors who provide documentation or separation information have a responsibility to ensure that benefits are only paid to former employees out of work through no fault of their own. Human Resources is responsible for administering all provisions of this policy and the procedures for resolving any problems related to unemployment compensation claims. As a not-for-profit organization, IIT reimburses the State for each unemployment claim paid to a former employee. Benefits may continue for up to 26 weeks after separation and are based on earnings and number of dependents. Anyone discharged for misconduct; who resigns for a reason not attributable to IIT, or is not available for work, may be denied benefits.
