Subject: Transit Reimbursement

IIT offers a Transit Reimbursement Program that allows the employee to pay, on a before-tax basis, for transit passes and parking expenses associated with commuting to and from work.

18.01 Eligibility (Refer to Policy B 1.00 for definitions)

Eligible Employees:
  • Full-time Employees
  • Full-time Faculty
  • Senior Research Associates
  • Research Associates
  • Union Employees
  • Part-time employees regularly working at least 23.25 hours/week
Not Eligible:
  • Temporary Employees
  • Adjunct and Part-time Faculty
  • Student Employees
  • Part-time employees working less than 23.25 hours/week

18.02 When Participation Begins

The employee must make a written election to participate prior to the 16th of any month to have deductions begin in the paycheck issued at the end of the same month.

18.03 Plan Funding

The employee funds his/her individual transit reimbursement through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis.

18.04 Changing Coverage

Changes to deduction accounts must be submitted by the 16th of the month to have deduction amounts change in the paycheck issued at the end of that same month.

18.05 When Participation Ends

To request termination of participation, submit a written request to the payroll office no later than the 16th of the month. Deductions will cease with the paycheck issued at the end of that same month, unless specified otherwise.
