Subject: Hours of Work / Scheduled Breaks

University office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday. Supervisors may require or approve alternative schedules. Full-time non-union employees typically work five 7 3/4-hour days totaling 38 3/4 hours per week.

1.01 Additional hours of work beyond that scheduled may be offered by a supervisor. At times this additional work may be mandatory. Every effort will be made to give as much notice as possible of changes to the normally scheduled workday or work week. See Policy D. 3.00 for proper compensation of any additional hours scheduled for non-exempt employees. Exempt (salaried) employees are not eligible for additional compensation.

1.02 There is an unpaid 45 minute lunch period. As workload permits, full-time employees are provided a paid 15 minute rest break each morning and afternoon scheduled with the approval of the supervisor. Such breaks should not be permitted at either the beginning or end of the work day. Departmental rules will establish whether one or both rest breaks may be combined with the lunch period.

1.03 Failure to work scheduled hours, including assigned overtime, or to return on time from breaks or lunch will subject the employee to disciplinary action.

1.04 Union employees are governed by the applicable provisions of the appropriate labor agreement.
