Subject: Tardiness 

The university expects all employees to report for work at the scheduled times.
 

4.01 Tardiness is failure to arrive in the appointed work area, ready to work, at the scheduled starting time. The employee is expected to contact the supervisor as soon as possible on a day when he/she will be late. This notification is required no later than one-half hour after the scheduled start of the work day. 
 
4.02 All tardiness, regardless of the number of minutes, becomes part of the employee's attendance record.
 
4.03 Docking of pay for tardiness is only applicable to non-exempt, hourly employees and is based on the following schedule: 
7 - 21 minutes late 15 minutes recorded as code 420 unpaid absence

22 - 36 minutes late 30 minutes " 

37 - 51 minutes late 45 minutes " 

52 - 66 minutes late 60 minutes "
 

4.04 Unusual circumstances causing tardiness, such as unpredictable inclement weather, accidents, etc. will be reviewed by the supervisor and, at his/her discretion, payment may be approved for the lost time or the opportunity may be given to make up the time during the same work week. Supervisory discretion must be applied, without discrimination, to all employees in similar situations and equal treatment is required.  
 
4.05 Disciplinary action up to and including discharge may be involved for repeated and excessive tardiness.
