Subject: Performance Appraisal

It is the policy of the university to evaluate the performance of each staff member at regular intervals during his/her employment. Appraisal identifies job accountabilities and performance objectives and measures results against expectations.

6.01 Each non-exempt employee performing clerical and technical work will have his or her performance evaluated and salary reviewed by his or her immediate supervisor and/or department head:

a. just prior to the completion of the six-month probationary period

b. six months after a promotion

c. annually thereafter or no later than the common date designated by the university administration

6.02 Each exempt employee will have his/her performance evaluated and salary reviewed one year from the date of employment and annually thereafter or no later than the common date designated by the university administration.
6.03 A performance appraisal is required before consideration will be given to a request for salary adjustment. A performance appraisal document and guidelines for use will be sent to the department head by Human Resources prior to the date the appraisal is due. Human Resources will provide supervisory training sessions on effective techniques for performance review. After the appraisal is completed, the form will be forwarded to Human Resources for inclusion in the employee's personnel file.
