    PreMedical Planning Guide

    IIT/Rush Combined Honors Engineering Science and Medicine Program

    The premedical planning guide gives prospective and current students in the IIT/Rush Program the information and guidance needed to prepare for a career in research and medicine. The guide features a timeframe and deadlines for academics, volunteer/internship experiences, preparing for and taking the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), obtaining letters of recommendation and applying to the IIT/Rush Honors program.

    Meet premedical advisor to develop a schedule
    Join the Honors Medical Society - IIT Chapter
    Begin volunteer work or research in a medically related field
    Identify research opportunities and internships for the summer
    Meet with premedical advisor to develop schedule for second year
    Review MCAT sample
    Identify research or volunteer opportunities and internships for the summer
    Begin optional Research Experience I
    Meet with premedical advisor to discuss the IIT/Rush application process
    Purchase MCAT preparation books
    Start working on your personal statement
    Continue volunteering
    Explore research opportunities and internships for the summer
    Review MCAT sample questions
    Obtain the IIT/Rush Program application (at the start of the spring semester) from the IIT Premedical Office
    Obtain letters of recommendation and have them sent to the IIT Premedical Office
    Complete application and submit to IIT Premedical Office by August 1
    Interview at IIT (early Fall) and Rush Medical College (Fall)
    Meet with premedical advisor to develop schedule for third year
    Receive acceptance notification by December
    Start optional Research Experience II
    Start studying for the MCAT
    Meet with Rush faculty to discuss potential research projects
    Continue studying for the MCAT
    Continue MCAT preparation
    Finalize arrangements for the required summer research internship
    Take MCAT
    Meet with premedical advisor to develop schedule for fourth year
    Undertake required research project
    Register with the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) by June or July for the purpose of matriculating into Rush.
    Meet with premedical advisor
    Maintain GPA of 3.5 or above
    Meet with chair of the Premedical Advisory Committee for exit interview
    Maintain GPA of 3.5 or above
