About the College of Psychology
The College of Psychology is an independent college at Illinois Institute of Technology, a private, Ph.D. granting university, established in 1890, with programs in engineering, science, psychology, architecture, business, design and law. The first Psychology degrees were awarded by the University in 1926. Seventy years later, in 1996, the College of Psychology evolved from the Department of Psychology in Lewis College of Science and Letters.
The College is housed on the University's 120-acre Main Campus, which was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, one of the 20th century's most influential architects. Today, the College of Psychology is uniquely positioned to respond to the demand for mental health care practitioners, educators, top corporate performers and gifted consultants with the skills to understand people in many sectors and settings.
We train professionals who can promote wellness, learning, corporate restructuring, retraining, workforce diversity and globalization.
Psychology's research and teaching strengths in clinical, rehabilitation and industrial/organizational disciplines earn accolades and national rankings.
Undergraduate education at the College of Psychology is focused on human behavior research. Psychology provides a great background for a wide variety of careers.
The College of Psychology offers the advantages of a small, profession-focused college in the setting of a sprawling urban campus. Study of human behavior is merged with learning to design, analyze and interpret empirical research using statistical methods, a distinctive combination that allows students to capitalize on both their analytic proficiencies and their interest in people.
At IIT, psychology is studied as a science, so students develop a background in scientific thinking - they become problem solvers.
The small, cohesive and diverse faculty offer both undergraduates and graduate students a unique mentoring relationship, a superior learning environment -- including small class sizes at all course levels, and unparalleled research and internship opportunities.
The College of Psychology's Industrial/Organizational program is the oldest, most successful and most respected in the Chicago area.
