Clinical Psychology Program - Ph.D. Practicum Experience
Beginning in the second year of the program, you will spend 15-20 hours per week at a practicum site in the community. Two years of practicum training are required but, like many students, you may choose to add an optional third year. Practicum placements are in a wide variety of facilities throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.In the first practicum year, your training site will serve low socioeconomic status populations and your training will focus on developing general assessment and treatment skills. In the second practicum year, your training site will be more specialized and in an area of your choice. Examples of specialized training sites include those focusing on neuropsychological assessment, pain disorders, psychiatric rehabilitation, behavior modification, in-patient mental health, addictive disorders, marital and family therapy, and outpatient mental health.
