How do I apply to the Institute of Psychology?

What is the application deadline?

What are the admissions requirements?
All programs require an application, application fee, Professional Statement, three Letters of Recommendation, transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended, and GRE scores (not required for M.S. in Rehabilitation). International applicants are also required to submit TOEFL scores and to complete an Affidavit of Support. The minimum GPA for all programs is 3.0. Minimum GRE scores are 1000 (verbal + quantitative) and 3.0 (writing). For the Industrial/Organizational Ph.D. program, each GRE subscale (verbal and quantitative) should be 500. Please only submit required documents listed on the application checklist. We do not have space for extra materials. Your ability to follow these instructions will be considered during the admission process.
What is the institution code for my GRE/TOEFL scores? Do I need a subject code, too?
IIT's institution code is 1318. There is no need to add a subject code.
How many letters of recommendation do I need?
All of our programs require three letters of recommendation. (Please note that this requirement is different than the university's, which asks for two letters for M.S. applicants.) Please only submit required documents listed on the application checklist. We do not have space for extra materials. Your ability to follow these instructions will be considered during the admission process.

The Industrial/Organizational Ph.D. program follows the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology's (SIOP) Guidelines for Education and Training, which have been approved by the American Psychological Association. (There is currently no accrediting board for this area.)

When You Apply
The online application won't take my statement, even though it is less than 1000 words. Is there another way I can turn it in?
You can mail it to us via regular mail or via email at psychology@iit.edu.
How and where can I pay the application fee?
You can pay the fee online with a credit card (in the online application here) or with a check. Make checks payable to Illinois Institute of Technology and send them to the address below.

Should I send my supplemental materials in a packet or separately?
You can do either. If you send the materials together, please have your recommenders sign over the flap on the sealed envelope. If you send the materials separately, please make sure that your name and contact information is on all documents.
After You Apply
How can I check my application status?
Visit http://department.iit.edu/applicationstatus. Your login is your entire e-mail address and your password is your campus-wide identification number (you will receive this via email a few days after your application is received). This site updates in the evenings.
Is financial aid available?
A variety of financial aid is available for incoming and current graduate students, including merit-based and need-based aid. Please see this page for more information.
When will I hear whether I am accepted?
The Clinical Ph.D. program hosts an Open House day for finalists in early March. Invited students receive more information in early February. Notification of admission decisions usually begins two weeks after the Open House and continues until all spots are filled.
The Industrial/Organizational M.S. and Ph.D. programs usually begin notifying in mid- to late-March. Notification continues until all spots are filled.
The Rehabilitation M.S. program uses rolling admissions. (However, applications must be complete by the deadline, March 15.) Each application undergoes a preliminary evaluation. Finalists are invited to interview with a faculty member and are usually notified of decision one or two weeks later.
The Rehabilitation Ph.D. program usually notifies in early April. All notifications are sent out simultaneously.
I've been accepted! What now?
Once you have made a decision, please inform us via a letter or email to your program director or psychology@iit.edu. In accordance with the Council of Graduate Schools guidelines, you will not be required to respond to our offer before April 15. (We ask, however, that you contact us as soon as you have made a decision about IIT.)
Incoming students will receive a letter with further information on orientation and registration during the summer. They will also receive a copy of Psychology's New Graduate Student Handbook, which contains a variety of links and information on housing, immunization requirements, etc.
