Indsutrial/Organizational Psychology Program Curriculum/Course Info
The Industrial/Organizational Psychology program offers two degrees and one certificate: Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and M.S. in Personnel and Human Resources Development.The Ph.D. program is a 96-credit-hour degree for students planning careers in university teaching, industry, government or consulting who wish to gain training in research methods as well as experience in work settings. The master's degree is typically completed while fulfilling the requirements for the doctoral program. The total post-baccalaureate course requirements for the Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology are:
- 3 courses in statistics
- 2 basic organizational and personnel psychology courses
- 4 courses in general psychology, which should be completed in the first two years
- Comprehensive exam for master's degree and qualification for entry in the Ph.D. degree program is completed by receiving a B average in the above four courses
- Completion of a master's thesis
- 9 electives in I/O or related fields such as public administration, business administration, and law
- Only up to 9 credit hours of electives can be from related fields
- 1 course in psychometric theory
- 1 course in training development and evaluation
- 2 semesters of part-time internships
- Comprehensive Ph.D. exam, taken after completing the master's thesis and the Ph.D. course work
- Completion of a Ph.D. dissertation
Master of Science in Personnel and Human Resources Development

The M.S. in Personnel and Human Resources Development is designed for individuals who wish to work as applied professionals in areas such as management consulting, human resource management, industrial relations and consumer behavior.

These core courses provide a broad understanding of human relations in the workplace through theory and practice. Electives in industrial/organizational psychology, vocational rehabilitation, public administration, law and business allow for specialization. Designed as a two-year full-time program with a minimum of 43 credit hours required, it also can be undertaken on a part-time basis. A research thesis or project is not required. Completing each I/O and statistics course with a minimum grade of a "B" fulfills the comprehensive requirement.
