WEEK OF 04.07.03

AND THE WINNER IS...
Noreen Kozak lands top award for service

IIT’s annual Excellence in Service Award for 2003 goes to Noreen Kozak. The selection committee made its unanimous decision last week, based in part, on a whopping 25 letters of recommendation that accompanied Kozak’s nomination for the non-faculty award, submitted by IIT colleagues across the spectrum of the university.

Kozak currently serves as executive assistant to Provost and Senior Vice President Allan Myerson. In her nine years at IIT, Noreen has also worked as executive assistant to President Lew Collens, along with deans and vice presidents. In announcing this year's award recipient, Human Resources Director Beverly Perret shared excerpts from some of Kozak’s nomination letters:

  • “Kozak makes things work by doing work beyond what anyone has any right to expect of her.”
  • “Noreen is dedicated, resourceful, a good communicator, dependable and always follows through.”
  • “…Meticulous when planning events, quick in taking action and efficient in running an operation.”
  • “She is a bridge builder - always helping to unite and empower her colleagues.”
  • “Noreen is the 'right hand' of the whole university.”
  • “I always contact her when I’m not sure who to contact or what to do.”
  • “IIT is a better place because of Noreen Kozak!”

Kozak will receive her “Excellence in Service Award,” April 16, 2003 and it comes with a check for $1,000. Congratulations Noreen!

Chicago-Kent, Intellectual Property Alliance Team Up

Chicago-Kent College of Law has joined the Chicago Intellectual Property Alliance (CIPA) as a founding member, working with law schools, law firms and Chicago-based businesses and associations to promote Chicago and the Midwest as a vibrant center for intellectual property expertise, ideas, education and programs.

CIPA, a not-for-profit organization, will bring together those with common interests in intellectual property law. It will sponsor academic and professional programs and foster an exchange of ideas among scholars, lawyers and business.

“Chicago-Kent has long had a well-respected, high developed and innovative program in intellectual property law,” said Professor Graeme Dinwoodie, director of Chicago Kent’s intellectual property law program. “We expect that it will be further enriched by our involvement in the Alliance, which will enhance the number and quality of programs we can offer.”

Moot Court Honor Society Announces
Winners of Grinker Award

Jessica Lechter and Tonda Lee have been named this year's winners of the Marc A. Grinker Outstanding Student Commitment Award, awarded each year to a Vice President and/or Senior Associate in the Moot Court Honor Society. Along with Jamie Burten and Jacob Karaca, Jessie and Tonda received nominations from their colleagues in the Honor Society, who praised their dedication to the Honor Society.
