![]() IIT Architecture Student Bonnie Wedster w./her Pole Stools, "The idea of the Pole Stools was to add on to an existing structural aspect of the Morton Arboretum. To create seating in a high-traffic area. In order to attach the seats to the column, I used crocheted hemp rope. I crocheted the rope to make it resemble the larvae of the EAB weaving their way through living ash trees." |

![]() Ash Conversation Chair, Andy Fawcett, Material/Finish: Ash, Aluminum, Oil & Wax, Description: The Chair is a union of metal and wood to a relationship that utilizes the strengths of each material. While the ash is easily worked connections like the leg to seat bottom can be a moment of weakness, the aluminum joint separates the ash while providing a strong joint." |
![]() Wave Bench, Abe Contreras, Material/Finish: Ash, Galvanized Steel & Finished Concrete, Description: The bench combines the idea of sitting as well as providing storage for two bicycles. It emulates the curves of a bicycle frame and seems to flow out of the ground. The Wood has been cut out as one single piece and the concrete base is there to help strengthen the bench. A simple design but extremely complicated to build. ARBO Bench, Lukasz Dakowicz, Material/Finish: Ash Wood, Concrete w./Waterborne ClearFinish, Description: The bench was designed generally to reflect the architecture of the Morton Arboretum’s Visitor Center and specifically its curved ceiling. The bench was made using Ash wood and concrete that blends naturally with the landscape and the Visitor Center’s architectural millwork. The shape of the concrete leg and its opening/reveal emphasize a connection to the natural form of the ash leaf. The waterborne finish contributes towards the benches environmental friendliness." |
