IIT is excited about its recycling program. It has been developed to be easy to use, giving everyone a sense that they are helping to reduce landfill wastes and costs.
The IIT Office of Sustainability and Recycling Team strive to provide the best programs and processes. Please explore this site to find information regarding how we recycling, what we recycle and where we recycle, as well as tips to reduce and reuse and much much more.

Q. Question?
I think recycling is important, but if we just keep consuming and using more stuff, even if we recycle it, isn’t that bad for the environment?
A. Answer
Great point. To start, we are focusing on implementing the infrastructure that will allow us to maximize how much "waste" we can divert from a landfill and recycle to another use. Now that most of the infrastructure is in place, our focus will actually be on reducing the total volume of items that are thrown away. We believe strongly in Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and in that order of priority.

Take a Look
IIT's partner for electronics recycling, SIMS will be featured on the November 3rd episode of the Discovery Channel, "Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe" at 8pm (Central).
Viewers will get a chance to see Mike Rowe perform a blade rotation in one of North America’s largest e-waste shredders built for shredding
end-of-life electronics. Each blade in this machine weighs approximately 13 pounds allowing it to break down electronic waste to the size of a dime in approximately thirty seconds. Mike Rowe rotated about 50 blades and then had the opportunity to dismantle some cathode ray tube (CRT) devices, which are one of the largest and most difficult to handle components of e-waste.
