GRANT AND FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The American Philosophical Society began assisting research by individual scholars in 1933. Today, the Society supports several major grant or fellowship programs to continue in the promotion of useful knowledge. Awards are made for research only. The Society makes no grants for study; for travel to conferences or workshops; for journalistic or other writing for general readership; or for assistance with translation or the preparation of materials for use by students. The purpose of the various programs is to enable scholars to perform research.

The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Foundation
The Broad Medical Research Program (BMRP) seeks to stimulate innovative research that will lead to progress in the prevention, therapy or understanding of the pathogenesis of IBD. The BMRP's goal is to fund basic or clinical IBD research projects that: (a) are in the early stages of exploration; (b) propose new directions or ideas; (c) are creative, novel, cutting edge and imaginative; and (d) are not ready for funding by other more traditional granting agencies. All proposals must be based on sound scientific evidence and analysis of current information in IBD research.

Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues
VARIOUS GRANT AND AWARD PROGRAMS
The Applied Social Issues Internship Program was established to encourage intervention projects, nonpartisan lobbying for legislation, applied research, and writing and implementing public policy. Proposals are invited for applying social science principles to social issues, in cooperation with a community, city, or state government organization, public interest group, or other not-for-profit entity. College seniors, graduate students, and first-year postdoctorates in psychology, applied social science, and related disciplines are eligible. The Clara Mayo Grants Program supports Masters' theses and pre-dissertation research on sexism, racism, or prejudice. The Gordon Allport Intergroup Relations Prize is offered each year for the best paper or article on intergroup relations. The SPSSI Committee on Grants-In-Aid has funds (up to $2,000 per grant) available for scientific research in social problem areas related to the basic interests and goals of SPSSI and particularly those that are not likely to receive support from traditional sources. Kurt Lewin Memorial Award named for the late Kurt Lewin, a pioneer in the science of group dynamics and a founder of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, this award is presented annually for "outstanding contributions to the development and integration of psychological research and social action. The Louise Kidder Early Career Award recognizes persons who have made substantial contributions to the field early in their careers. In contrast to SPSSI's other awards. The Otto Klineberg Intercultural and International Relations Award is offered each year for the best paper or article on intercultural or international relations, a field about which Professor Klineberg cared deeply.
