    RET 2007: Assisting Diabetics with Technology

    Module Abstract

    This module will cover the following topics: diabetes, human physiology involved in processing insulin, use of engineering and technology to help diabetics maintain a healthy insulin level, and identification of carbohydrates in food listings. Using a specially designed simulation program called Glucosim, middle school students will learn about the importance of controlling the diet and insulin injections of diabetic patients. The module will challenge students to design their own treatment plan for a diabetic patient.
