Module Abstract
The module is designed to introduce seventh graders to type 2 Diabetes (once called adult onset Diabetes, or non-insulin dependant Diabetes). The module will focus on the risk factors, and prevention of this increasingly prevalent disease.
This learning will be generated by: lecture, handouts, an art project, web searches, and will culminate in a student generated 24-hour menu that will keep the glucose levels in the blood as close to a normal range as possible. This project will be done using two interactive web sites called meal planner, and glucosim. Students will choose foods using the food pyramid, enter them into the meal planner program, and monitor the glucose levels using glucosim.
