First Year Experience

The first year experience (FYE) at the Illinois Institute of Technology is designed to help students find the resources and support you need to succeed during your time here.

FYE is a service offered from the Office of Campus Life. Campus Life combines Orientation, Parent Programs, Student Organizations, and Leadership to enhance your experience as a student during your time as an Illinois Tech Hawk. The first year experience program is comprised of three components: Peer Mentor Program, Freshman 15, and Tech 101.

Peer Mentor Program
Each first year student is assigned a Peer Mentor. Your mentor is a sophomore, junior or senior who has been at IIT for at least one full academic year. This mentor is your connection to life on campus and success while at IIT. Students are encouraged to meet with their mentors at least twice a month, but maintain contact with them throughout your entire first year at IIT.

Freshman 15
Closer to the Fall semester, Campus Life will release a list of 15 programs for the Fall semester. If you attend all 15 of these events, you will be entered into a drawing.

Tech 101
These conversations are designed to give you the tools to succeed while at IIT. Topics will include study skills, ways to get involved on IIT's campus, and many other resources.
