- Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.
- Humanities - Choose one course from the following: ENG 101, 102, 103, 105, 113, 114, 121, 122, 123, 231, 285, 288; HIS 121, 122, 141, 142, 151, 152; HUM 151, 152; or PHL 101, 103, 104, 105, 106.

Note 1. MMAE 200 can be used for the technical elective in EE or the engineering science elective in CPE.
Note 2. MMAE 320 is required for EE, but may be used as the engineering science elective in CPE.
Note 3. A CPE major should not take the equivalent of both MMAE 200 and 320.
