    Professional and Technical Communication or Internet Communication

    Please contact the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs with any questions regarding the course equivalencies below.

    GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM - Please consult the General Education section of the current IIT Bulletin for complete requirements.

    1. Basic Writing Proficiency - Students must show basic writing proficiency by receiving a satisfactory score on the Writing Proficiency Examination or by passing an English Composition course.
    2. Humanities - Choose one course from the following: ENG 101, 102, 103, 105, 113, 114, 121, 122, 123, 231, 285, 288; HIS 121, 122, 141, 142, 151, 152; HUM 151, 152; or PHL 101, 104, 105.
    3. Social Sciences - Choose one course from the following: ANT 101, 102, 103, 105, 150, 201, 275; ECO 102, 103, 150; GEO 104, 105, 106; PSC 150, 151, 184; PSY 100, 105, 201, 210, 216, 222, 228, 238, 245; SSC 190; or SOC 100, 120, 131, 175, 180, 201, 210, 225, 231.
    4. Choose one course from section B or section C or from the following: ARC 210; ART 110, 111, 112, 114, 210; ENG 170; HIS 155, 156, 191, 192; HUM 101, 102, 104, 105, 131, 165; IDS 101, 102; or MUS 110, 215, 216.
    5. Science Electives - A minimum of eleven (11) credit hours is required. Two courses must be in the same field and at least one course must be in a different field. Choose from the following: AST 100, 101, 102; BIS 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 110, 111, 112, 122, 190, 234; CHM 100, 110, 132, 140, 141; or PHY 101, 102.
    6. Mathematics - Choose MAT 131 (IIT's Math 151).
    7. Computer Science - PTC majors should take CIS 255 (IIT's CS 105). ICOM majors must take CIS 295 (IIT's CS 201).
    8. Ethics Elective - Choose one course from the following: PHL 103 or 106, or complete the three course sequence of HUM 124, 125 and 126.
    9. Science, Technology and Society Elective - Choose one course from the following: GEO 105, HUM 102, MCM 120, or PSY 201.
    10. ICOM and PTC Electives - Choose two courses from the following: FRE 101, 102; ITL 101, 102; MAT 170 or ECO 170; MKT 125; PSY 245; or SPN 101, 102.
    11. Free Electives - Choose three courses from any of the courses listed in the above sections or any course with an "IAI" designation, except MAT 101, 102, 117, 124; MUS 115, 116, 135, 179, 180, 181, 217, 218, 235, 247, 249, 250, 261, 262, 266.
    12. Minor Electives (PTC only) - The Professional and Technical Communication curriculum requires a 15 semester hour minor. Depending on the minor, a student may complete a maximum of three courses at Triton. Please contact IIT's Office of Educational Services for additional information.
