Crown Scholarship

The Crown Scholarship is the College of Architecture's most prestigious and selective scholarship, providing you with full-tuition for five years of study at IIT. The College of Architecture seeks incoming students with exceptional potential who will be challenged by the IIT curriculum to pursue a professional commitment to excellence in architecture.

How to become a Crown Scholar

Complete an application for admission as well as Crown Scholarship Application which includes the following:

  • One-page essay explaining your interest in architecture
  • Original drawing - submit one 8.5"x11" freehand drawing (any subject)
  • Letter of recommendation for the Crown Scholarship
  • Candidates must submit the additional materials to the College of Architecture, postmarked by Tuesday, January 16, 2008. The application for undergraduate admission should be sent to the Office of Admission by the same deadline.

Your application will be reviewed by a distinguished review board, which represents the educational leadership of IIT and the architectural community of Chicago. After a review of all applications in mid-January, finalists will be invited to interview on campus during Scholarship Weekend, February 22-23, 2008. Within two weeks of the Scholarship Weekend, you will be notified if you are selected for the Crown Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements

  • Incoming freshman
  • Graduation in the top 10 percent of your graduating class
  • Outstanding academic achievement
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities, demonstrating leadership and independence
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Scholarship Weekened Itinerary

  • Interview with a panel of faculty and leading Chicago architects
  • Meet current Crown students from around the country
  • Take a tour of Chicago, one of the greatest cities in the world
  • Learn about the opportunities within the College of Architecture by speaking with faculty and tour the facilities during Departmental Open Houses
  • Learn how to get involved on campus: Varsity Sports, 33rd Street Productions, and much more
  • Spend the weekend in the Residence Halls or Fraternity and Sorority Houses and see what it's like to be a student at IIT!

Irwin Fieldhouse
(1915-2005)

Fieldhouse was involved in many significant projects at IIT, including the Antarctic Snow Cruiser, engineered for use in Admiral Richard Byrd's South Pole expedition, and the creation of the dimples in golf balls.
